Ph.D. Ecology, 2021

I am interested in stream algal ecology, stream trophic dynamics, and freshwater diatom taxonomy. My dissertation research focuses on the effects of riparian forest change on stream algal communities via changes in light availability in southern Appalachian headwater streams. Specifically, I am investigating how eastern hemlock death has affected stream algal biomass and community composition and how management of a native riparian shrub (Rhododendron maximum L.) might affect stream algal communities and trophic dynamics.  My dissertation work is part of the Coweeta Long Term Ecological Research program.
